What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a drug-free, non-surgical science and healing art concerned with human health and disease processes.  Doctors of chiropractic are physicians who consider the body as an integrated structure.  Chiropractic care works by strengthening and balancing the nervous system in order to promote the healthy functioning of your body.

Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of your body.  It controls the function of virtually every cell, tissue, organ and body system.  If the nervous system is compromised pain an dysfunction can result, not only in the spine, but in other parts of the body as well.

Specifically spinal joint dysfunctions (subluxations) can interfere with the nervous system and actually impede the flow of electrical activity from the spinal cord out to the tissues of the body to varying degrees.  Since the nervous system coordinates all of the body’s functions this impedance can result in many different conditions of reduced health.  Subluxations can also occur in other joints of your body.

With chiropractic we diagnose and treat the mechanical disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system of the body that affect the nervous system with the intention of improving your health.

Chiropractic employs gentle massage and manipulation and/or adjustment of the spine and extremities to restore proper joint function, relieve pressure on nerves, and strengthen supporting muscles and soft tissues.
